Queens Baton: Insult to martyrs of freedom struggle

The Queens Baton after passing through all former British colonies has reached Indian border on 25th June for taking round the country till the opening of the Common Wealth Games in October. The Queen’s Baton and the Common Wealth Games are nothing but an effort to establish forever the legacy of the rule of British Empire over the country. That the much acclaimed ‘de- colonization’ was a farce,  what happened with the transfer of power on 15th August 1947 was nothing but a transformation of colonial India to neo colonial India still dominated by the imperialists “through other means” is repeatedly underlined by them. Elsewhere we have written how Indian citizens including the slum- dwellers and beggars are thrown out of Delhi to make the city presentable to the ‘Western Masters’. The whole government machinery is working overtime to please the old masters at the expense of the people of this country. The reception to Queen Baton and the Common wealth Game itself is an insult to the people of the country and through these despicable acts the present neo colonial ruling system is trampling underfoot the great sacrifices of the martyrs to liberate this country from the yoke of imperialism.
In this situation, even while continuing the opposition to these despicable acts, including spending of Rs 50,000 crores for these games after pauperizing the masses for it, all the patriotic forces, all left and democratic forces should seriously think about calling for a boycott of Common Wealth Games.
